MEMORY

This on-going project explores the effects of Dementia and in particular Alzheimer’s which affects memory, language, and thought. The starting point for this image was the sketch of Odin’s Ravens from Norse Mythology: Huginn and Muninn (often translated as Thought and Memory). These Ravens fly round the world gathering information for Odin, but are also embodiments of his faculties and feelings.

Using the Reduction Linocut process, the block has been carved away in stages, but each print has been produced by printing or over printing only a subset of these stages, sometimes in different orientations.

The images, the different sequences of images and the way in which the process has been used to produce the images aim to reflect and represent the effect of this disease.
